U.K. stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.34%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Tobacco, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.34%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which rose 2.84% or 18.60 points to trade at 673.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 2.70% or 18.50 points to end at 703.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 1.80% or 42.00 points to 2,379.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which fell 3.41% or 15.80 points to trade at 447.00 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 3.23% or 88.00 points to end at 2,640.00 and Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) was down 2.27% or 22.50 points to 968.50.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 951 to 771 and 728 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) rose to 52-week highs; rising 2.70% or 18.50 to 703.00.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.96% or 26.00 to $2,733.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.63% or 1.15 to hit $69.52 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.57% or 1.17 to trade at $73.28 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.13% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 103.39.
