U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.19%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, Real Estate and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.19%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Airtel Africa Plc (LON:AAF), which rose 5.16% or 5.15 points to trade at 105.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) added 2.66% or 17.50 points to end at 675.00 and Londonmetric Property Plc (LON:LMPL) was up 2.26% or 4.30 points to 194.30 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR), which fell 3.19% or 141.00 points to trade at 4,274.00 at the close. Entain PLC (LON:ENT) declined 2.61% or 21.00 points to end at 783.20 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was down 2.02% or 12.00 points to 582.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 908 to 842 and 696 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.70% or 18.51 to $2,664.81 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.51% or 0.35 to hit $68.42 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.57% or 0.41 to trade at $71.91 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.87% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.98% at 105.92.
